Cantores Minores and the Boy Choir of the Glinka College

This concert will bring together two boys’ choirs, which were founded on the opposite sides of the Gulf of Finland, in St Petersburg and Helsinki. The Glinka Choir College and its singers has long been a part of the music scene in St Petersburg. They uphold the traditions of Russian choral singing. The Cantores Minores school at the Helsinki Cathedral teaches singers in the traditions of Lutheran boys’ choirs. They are a matter of pride for Finland just like chaplains are for St Petersburg. Each ensemble will present their own educational and music peculiarities, with the St Petersburg choir performing excerpts from Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Liturgy and Sergei Taneyev’s works, while the Helsinki choir will sing spiritual hymns and songs by Bach, Mendelssohn, Bruckner, music set to spiritual texts by our contemporaries and, of course, Finnish music. On the eve of the Lent, such cross-cultural events provide one more proof that music knows no borders.
