Philipp Kopachevsky


Philipp Kopachevsky was born in Moscow in 1990. In 2013 he graduated from the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory (class of Sergei Dorensky).

Prize-winner at eight international competitions including the International Franz Schubert Piano Competition in Dortmund (2005; 3rd prize and special prize) and the International Piano Competition in memoriam of Vera Lotar-Shevchenko in Novosibirsk (2006; 1st prize).

Regular participant in the Stars of the 21st Century project at the Moscow Philharmonic Society. Has toured to Great Britain, Germany, Austria, the USA, the Netherlands, France, Italy, Greece, Poland, Spain, Estonia, Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, China, Japan and cities throughout Russia. Has gained particular popularity in Japan, where specially for a commission for NHK he recorded a disc of piano works by Chopin.

Has appeared with such ensembles as the Mariinsky Orchestra, the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Russia (Svetlanov Symphony Orchestra), the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, the St Petersburg Symphony Orchestra, the Russian National Orchestra, the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia, the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra, the Novaya Rossiya State Symphony Orchestra, the Sinfonia Varsovia (Warsaw), the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi, the Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini (Parma), the Orchestre national d’Île-de-France and London’s English Chamber Orchestra. Has collaborated with the conductors Mstislav Rostropovich, Valery Gergiev, Vladimir Spivakov, Mikhail Pletnev, Yuri Simonov, Yevgeny Kolobov, Alexander Dmitriev, William Noll, Charles Olivieri-Munroe, Yevgeny Bushkov, Maxim Vengerov and Paul Watkins.

Has appeared at the Miami International Piano Festival, the Festival International de Colmar, the Mstislav Rostropovich International Music Festival in Baku, the Moscow Easter Festival, the Baltic Seasons, Vladimir Spivakov Invites, Stars on Baikal, Crescendo, Denis Matsuev Invites and Stars of the White Nights festivals.

Participant in programmes of the St Petersburg Music House since 2013.

In 2015 Philipp Kopachevsky released a solo disc of works by Liszt, Schubert and Janáček, followed in 2016 by a disc of works by Scriabin and Liszt and in 2018 came a recording of opuses by Brahms. In 2017 together with violinist Haik Kazazyan he recorded an album of violin sonatas by Grieg, in 2020 in a collaboration with the pianists Morta Grigaliūnaitė and Saskia Giorgini the artist recorded sonatas by Janáček, Enescu and Grażyna Bacewicz, and in 2021 together with pianist Lukas Geniušas he released the album 24 Preludes, featuring works by Rachmaninoff and Scriabin.
Recipient of the Parabola Youth Prize from the Andrey Voznesensky Charitable Foundation (2017).
