Isabelle Partiot-Pieri graduated from the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris as an architect. She learned the profession assisting to opera directors and set designers. For opera films she was assistant for Francesco Rosi’s Carmen (1984), Luigi Comencini’s La Bohème (1988) and Andrzej Żuławski’s Boris Godounov (1989), casting director for Frederic Mitterrand’s Madama Butterfly (1994) and artistic adviser for Benoît Jacquot’s Tosca (2001). She has written and directed the film Toscan, portrait of the opera films producer, selected at the Festival de Cannes (2010) and winner of the Audience Special Award at the COLCOA French Film Festival in Hollywood (2011).
As a set designer, Isabelle Partiot-Pieri has collaborated with Charles Roubaud on a number of his productions, including La Cenerentola, Dialogues des Carmélites, Pelléas et Mélisande, Katia Kabanova, Aida, Turandot, Norma, Lucia di Lammermoor, I puritani, Don Carlo, Nabucco, Ernani, Tosca among others. She has staged and designed Lucia di Lammermoor in Nantes (1992), as well as an adaptation of Cats (2004) and also the Patrick Burgan’s opera world premiere Peter Pan (2006) for the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris.
At the Mariinsky Theatre she has created the sets for Turandot (2002) and staged and designed Pagliacci (2006) and Adriana Lecouvreur (2017).
