Vincent de Kort

In 1995 the Dutch conductor Vincent de Kort, at the invitation of Mariss Jansons, made his debut conducting the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra. His international breakthrough followed in 1997 when he stepped in at the last minute for Gennady Rozhdestvensky with the European Union Youth Orchestra (soloist Radu Lupu) at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw.

This rapidly led to further engagements, he has since then been invited by the Staatskapelle Dresden, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, New Japan Philharmonic, Rotterdam Philharmonic, Netherlands Philharmonic, Brussels Philharmonic, Sinfonia Varsovia, Bern Symfonie Orchester, Luzern Sinfonie Orchester, Zürich Symphony Orchestra, Izmir State Symphony Orchestra, European Sinfoniëtta, as well as the European Union Youth Orchestra, in which he had formerly been a cellist, under the direction of Claudio Abbado.

Having studied with Mariss Jansons in Oslo, he continued his studies in St Petersburg with Ilya Musin and was the assistant conductor to Bernard Haitink, William Christie and Gennady Rozhdestvensky.

Vincent de Kort frequently conducts at renowned opera houses including the Semperoper Dresden, Mariinsky Theatre, Royal Swedish Opera, Oper Leipzig, Scottish Opera, New National Theatre Tokyo, Theater Luzern, Theater Bern, Lithuanian National Opera, Magdeburg Opera, Opéra de Tours, Nelson Mandela Theatre Johannesburg, Hawaii Opera and the Dutch Nationale Reisopera.

Vincent de Kort has established himself among the finest Mozart conductors of his generation. Because of his close collaboration with early music specialist William Christie in Paris, de Kort deepened his knowledge of the music from the classical period. In consequence Vincent de Kort has received the highest praise for his dynamic interpretations of the Mozart operas.

Vincent de Kort is jury chairman of the highly popular Dutch TV program MAESTRO, he is a moderator talking about classical music on TV and a regular guest in talk shows. He was principal guest conductor in Zürich and was music director and founder of the international chamber orchestra European Sinfonietta as well as the Opera Festival Alden Biesen in Belgium.
