Renat Salavatov


Renat Salavatov is an Honoured Artist of Russia, People's Artist of Tatarstan and Cavalier of the Order of Honour and the Order of Friendship (Kazakhstan).

In 1969 he graduated from the Central School of Music of the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatoire as a cellist, while in 1974 he graduated from the faculty of symphony conducting at the Leningrad State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire (classes of Konstantin Simeonov and Ilya Musin). Under the guidance of Leo Ginzburg he undertook a postgraduate study at the Moscow Conservatoire.

In 1974 he was appointed Principal Conductor of the Chamber Orchestra of Kazakh Radio. From 1976–1978 and 1985–1989 he was a conductor of the Kazakh State Abay Opera and Ballet Theatre (Almaty), from 1979–1985 he was Principal Conductor of the State Symphony Orchestra of the Tatar Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic (Kazan), from 1989–1990 he was a conductor at the Leningrad State Kirov Opera and Ballet Theatre (now the Mariinsky Theatre) and from 1990–1995 he was a pianist and conductor of the Bayerische Staatsballett (Munich). From 1996–2001 he was a conductor at the Royal Opera in Stockholm.

From 2001–2009 he was Principal Conductor and Artistic Director of the Kazakh State Abay Opera and Ballet Theatre. From 2013–2015 he held the same position with the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Since 2003 he has been Principal Conductor of the Tatar State Musa Jalil Opera and Ballet Theatre. Has toured to Brazil, Turkey, the USA, China and Europe.
