Sergei Polianichko


Sergei Polianichko is Artistic and General Director of the State Wind Orchestra of Russia and founder and director of the Centre of Horn Music and the Russian Horn Orchestra.

Born in Rostov on Don in 1974. Graduated from the St Petersburg State Conservatoire (French horn class of Andrei Glukhov), the St Petersburg State Theatre Institute and the St Petersburg School of Television. While studying at the Conservatoire he undertook conducting lessons from Ilya Musin and Vladislav Chernushenko. Has taken part in master-classes conducted by Alexander Polyanichko, Vladimir Ponkin, Jorma Panula and Jan Latham-Koenig. For several years he has worked as a host on leading St Petersburg TV programmes (the All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company and Channel 5) as well as TV-6. Has appeared as a soloist with the symphony orchestras of the St Petersburg Conservatoire, the St Petersburg State Cappella, the Mariinsky Theatre, the St Petersburg State Academic Symphony Orchestra and the Russian National Orchestra.

Guest concertmaster of the French horn section of the Heinola Sinfonietta orchestra (Finland), the Nordic Symphony Orchestra (Estonia) and the Santiago Philharmonic Orchestra (Chile). Appears with ensembles and in recitals. Has toured on several occasions to Great Britain, France, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Israel, Denmark, Finland, Latvia, Estonia, China, the USA and Chile.

As an assistant conductor he has worked on productions of the operas Boris Godunov at the Monte Carlo Opera (2006) and Mazepa and Eugene Onegin at the Welsh National Opera (2008). Recently he has collaborated with the Sinfonia Varsovia orchestra (Poland), the State Svetlanov Academic Symphony Orchestra of Russia, the Russian National Orchestra and the Krasnodar and Rostov Symphony Orchestras.

In 2006 he founded and directed the Nevsky symphony orchestra, with which he appears at festivals, produces recordings for films, runs master-classes and accompanies stars of the Russian stage. The same year, he founded and directed the Russian Horn Orchestra. Since 2007 he has directed the Centre of Horn and Wind Music. In 2009 he established the SPband wind ensemble. Since 2015 he has been Artistic and General Director of the State Wind Orchestra of Russia. Since 2016 he has been a conductor of the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra.
