Conductor

• Prize-winner at the Rachmaninoff International Competition for Pianists, Composers and Conductors (Moscow, 2022; 1st prize and Gold Medal)

Gurgen Petrosyan was born in Nalchik (Kabardino-Balkaria) in 1991. In 2015 he graduated from Saratov State Conservatoire as a choral conductor (class of Nelli Vladimirtseva) and in 2017 as a symphony orchestra conductor (class of Sergey Nesterov).

During his studies at the conservatory, he won several awards as a choral conductor, including 1st prize at the Krasnoyarsk International Choral Conductors Competition (2015).
From 2015 to 2017 Petrosyan was Assistant Conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of Saratov State Conservatoire. From 2016 to 2018 he conducted the Volga Region Chamber Orchestra.

Has also performed with the State Symphony Orchestra Novaya Rossiya, the Armenian State Orchestra, the Astana State Academic Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of the Kostroma Regional State Philharmonic, the Moscow State Youth and Children Symphony Orchestra, the Hong Kong Sinfonietta and the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra.

From 2018 to 2021 Gurgen Petrosyan was Assistant Conductor, since 2021 he has been Conductor of the Mariinsky Theatre. In the theatre he conducted operas Ruslan and Lyudmila, The Queen of Spades, Eugene Onegin, The Demon, Mazepa, The Maid of Orleans, The Maid of Pskov, Sadko, Christmas Eve, The Tsar’s Bride, The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh, Le Rossignol, The Gambler, Semyon Kotko, Betrothal in a Monastery, Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, Don Pasquale, La traviata, Macbeth, Aida (concert performance), Pagliacci, Cavalleria rusticana, Manon Lescaut (semi-staged performance), La fanciulla del West, Idomeneo, re di Creta, Der Schauspieldirektor, Die Fledermaus, Benvenuto Cellini, Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Adriana Lecouvreur, Duke Bluebeard’s Castle, Nabucco, A life for the Tsar, ballets La sylphide, The Nutcracker, A csodálatos mandarin, Cinderella, Carmen Suite.
In December 2019 Petrosyan conducted the orchestra during the Mariinsky Ballet tour to Baden-Baden.
